By bringing together perspectives from Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Jewish Studies, Indology, Sinology, Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and New Testament theology (stretching across the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa) with the classical and modern philologies, including German, English and Romance Studies as well as Legal History and Musicology, the IDK has the necessary interdisciplinary profile to develop comparative perspectives on the philological practices of pre-modern cultures in ways as foundational as they are innovative.
