Colloquia on the status of the dissertation projects

As part of a winter semester colloquium series in 2023/24, our doctoral students had the opportunity to discuss the progress of their dissertation projects in four plenary sessions with their supervisors, colleagues, and some international guests.
The first session was dedicated to a writing workshop, wherein the scientific style and structure of the doctoral projects were refined. Parts of the dissertations that had already been written were tested formally, while the other three sessions were dedicated to presenting the current status of the research projects and discussing selected excerpts of the projects. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research training group, a separate PhD student presented the work of another and led the subsequent discussion. Each project was discussed collectively for one hour during scheduled appointments.
The colloquium provided doctoral candidates with the opportunity to gain from the scientific expertise and experience of supervisors from various disciplines, in addition to feedback from their peers, in both formal and content-based contexts. The meetings were conducted in a collegial seminar atmosphere and were also held in a hybrid format, as doctoral students are currently pursuing research projects abroad.
