IDK Inauguration Ceremony

On 5 May 2022, the long-awaited official inauguration ceremony (Eröffnungsfeier) of the IDK Philology took place, which had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event was held in the Senate Hall of the main building of the LMU, with a large number of attendees, not just Munich, but international guests, as well as virtual participants. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernd Huber, the President of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, warmly welcoming everyone present and online. After the warm opening of the event, the spokeswoman of the college, Prof. Dr. Beate Kellner, and sinologist Michael Lackner (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) first presented the intentions, perspectives, goals, and program of the IDK Philology. Subsequently, the doctoral candidates, organised in teams, showcased their individual PhD projects, with special attention to how different projects related to one another beyond what first meets the eye. The official ceremony concluded with the closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Susanne Reichlin. The event was accompanied by beautiful performances by performers on the clarinet, bassoon, and flute . The festivities continued after the presentations in the parish hall of the Ludwigskirche with a reception, where the guests had the opportunity to discuss the showcased projects in a convivial atmosphere and establish connections.
